Their Story

How did you meet?

We met at a bar in Corpus Christi while I was working and he was coming in for lunch. He had a grilled chicken salad and about 16 Coors lights - and was still coherent after. I knew he might be trouble but I took a risk and got my Chance.

What first attracted you to your spouse?

He was easy to talk to. Something I had never truly experienced before. He was sincere and didn't ask questions he didn't really want the answers to. Something I think we all take for granted.

Where was your first date? How did it go?

Our first date was at a La Palma, a local Mexican restaurant that was pretty good. I went there on my lunch break from the bar and since he had been there with his friends, realized I left. He called me and asked why I left then asked to join me. I was so excited but so nervous. At first I wouldn't have called this a date, but by the end of my lunch break he walked me to my car and gave me a kiss, asking if we could do this again. **Cue the butterflies and blushing!!**

How did the proposal happen?

We had both been working a lot and seeing each other little. We had both been gone for over a month and finally made it home for one day before I had to leave for work again. I was laying in bed for a quick 30 min nap before driving 8hrs back to work and there was a knock at the door. He got up and answered it, coming back inside with a box. I asked him what it was. We get a lot of hunting and outdoorsy stuff... like a box of headlamps the week before... so I wasn't too impressed when he said, "don't worry about it!" I just responded with a very natural, "Oh great...more hunting stuff," before heading back to the bedroom to finish my interrupted nap.

He came back into the bedroom and laid down next to me on his stomach with a sort of proud look on his face. I opened my eyes as he laid down and he asked, "Babe, are you ready to spend the rest of our lives together?"
I was confused until he pulled the little red box out from under the pillow he was laying on and opened it to reveal the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. I. WAS. ECSTATIC.

I had no idea he had even chosen a ring yet because he was still asking me the day before what kind of ring styles I might like. It was pure bliss. Of course I said yes and then he sent me off to work.

When and where was your wedding?

Our wedding is in April 2019 so we're still in the planning stages but it'll be in George West, TX at Katzfey Ranch.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Chance and I honeymoon every time we see each other because we both work so much away from home. But for the 'official' thing we're planning on a road trip to Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park sometime in June-ish 2019.

What else would you like to share about your romance? Is there a special memory, or an amusing anecdote?

I studied geology in college and was pretty dead set on NEVER having a diamond engagement/wedding ring. "They're just a clear sparkly rock made of carbon,"... "There are way cooler sparkly rocks out there," I would say. I was also pretty set in wanting a white gold or silver band, having joined the 'I hate gold' club years ago.
Through looking at rings to give him examples of styles I liked, there was only one ring that ever caught my eye that had both a diamond and gold.... and I didn't make that big of a deal about it because I wasn't that sure I liked it.

When he opened that box, there was no hesitation in me at all. I absolutely loved it!! A diamond ring with a rose gold band. Pure BEAUTY. Chance knew what I'd love even more than I did because he knows me better than I do. I love that man to the moon and back!
